After Warhol moved, his eldest brother, Paul Warhola, kept the paintings. After Paul and his wife passed away, their seven children inherited the valuable collection. One of the siblings, illustrator James Warhola, explained that they are currently negotiating with several major auction houses that are interested in handling the sale. He admitted that selling the art was not something they initially wanted to do. However, he explained that it is the only way to divvy up an estate, and several family members could use the extra money. The collection features whimsical portraiture of children as well as abstract, distorted imagery. But experts agree that "Nosepicker 1," which is likely Warhol’s first self-portrait, is the real prize. It will head to auction first, along with "Living Room," a 1948 watercolor painting.
