Warhol began his studies in 1945 but struggled through his first-year courses. To refine his draftsmanship, he took a summer drawing class while working alongside his brother selling produce from a truck. He sketched customers in his spare moments, and these sketches earned him a scholarship. During college, Warhol started experimenting with his famous blotted-line technique, combining drawing with printmaking. Throughout his career, Warhol had a deep fascination with self-portraits. He often recreated his own likeness using photobooth strips and colorful silkscreens. His nephew recalled that the inspiration for "Nosepicker" came from his father's complaints about children picking their noses. Although some people found the topic inappropriate, Warhol believed that being offensive could work in the art world. He possessed a keen sense of humor and was never afraid to push boundaries.
