原文语境
When I was in my early thirties, my partner suggested I might have chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as ME. This condition is incredibly frustrating because its name makes it sound like you are just slightly tired, whereas patients actually experience a shifting collection of severe symptoms. On my worst days, I felt controlled by something demonic. Eventually, I visited a specialist in New York. He confirmed the diagnosis, explaining that my symptoms were authentic signs of a complex neuroimmune disease. For twenty years, I had left doctors' offices in complete despair, but this time I left in tears of relief. Although there was no standard treatment, knowing my illness was real was a huge comfort. Later, I moved to Colorado, where the abundant sunshine and mountain trails improved my health. When I was well, I looked back on my past episodes with neutral detachment, almost believing the illness had never actually happened.
