Sam Anderson is one of my favorite working writers, but I didn’t really care much about Oklahoma City or basketball when I picked up his book, Boom Town. And yet, I loved it. While reading, I wondered if I was being driven nuts by it. One thing I cannot get enough of is the sense that the author had a blast writing it. It feels like they let themselves get carried away, went for the ride, and managed the material in just the right way so the reader could join in, too. This feeling of an author's enjoyment is something I deeply appreciate in a book.
