Shadow Chancellor Andrew Griffith announced that the Conservatives plan to scrap at least one tax in every future budget if they win the next election. Speaking at the annual party conference, he explained that lower and simpler taxes would be his main priority. However, he explained that the government would only introduce tax cuts when the country could properly afford them. Griffith also strongly criticised a new levy on expensive homes, warning it would harm the housing market. Meanwhile, political opponents claimed that the Conservatives had completely failed to manage the economy.
