Millions of Afghan people have lived in neighbouring Pakistan and Iran for decades. However, both countries are now cracking down on undocumented migrants. More than six million people have been forced to return in recent years. Many of them were born abroad and have never lived in Afghanistan before. When they arrive at border camps, families face severe heat and poor living conditions, with only tents for temporary shelter. Aid organisations say they have never seen people returning on this scale in recent history.
